SUMMARY:Prenatal Substance Exposure Training for Child Welfare Staff
DESCRIPTION:Creating a Family has developed an evidence-based\, specialized training aimed at increasing child welfare professionals’ knowledge of prenatal substance exposure and enhancing their confidence in supporting affected children and their foster\, adoptive\, and kinship parents. \nThrough Creating a Family’s Prenatal Substance Exposure Training for Child Welfare Staff\, participants will be able to recognize the prevalence of prenatal substance exposure in the child welfare system\, identify symptoms associated with prenatal substance exposure\, and be able to identify strategies to support children from infancy to young adulthood. Creating a Family provides access to a resource library\, including resources in Spanish\, during and after attending the sessions. This is an interactive\, 4-hour training split into two (2) sessions. \nOur upcoming training is being offered for free\, courtesy of our partner Jockey Being Family®. \n

SUMMARY:University of Minnesota - Prenatal Alcohol Exposure Web-based Brain Assessment Study
DESCRIPTION:Fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD) affect an estimated 2 to 5 percent of children nationwide\, yet many go undiagnosed due to high assessment costs\, long wait times\, stigma\, and limited trained providers. Few interventions exist for this population. In this presentation\, Drs. Blake Gimbel and Jeffrey Wozniak—child psychologists and FASD researchers—will share details about their study testing an online neuropsychological screening tool designed to improve diagnostic access\, especially in rural areas. They will outline the research\, explain how families can participate\, and discuss findings on choline as a brain-health intervention for young children with FASD. Audience questions on these and related topics will be welcomed.
