About FASD 2027
Three perspectives.
One shared conference.
Research. Practice & Policy. Living Experience.

Conference Information
The 20th Annual International Conference on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders
The 20th Annual International Conference on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) brings together researchers, clinicians and cross-sector professionals, policymakers, community leaders and advocates, and people with FASD and their families from around the world. Together, we advance knowledge, strengthen collaboration, and improve outcomes for people with FASD across the lifespan.
First held in 1988, the 2027 conference continues to bring together three intersecting perspectives—research; practice and policy; and living experience—within one shared conference.
From basic and translational science to practice-based approaches to prevention, diagnosis, intervention, supports, and emerging approaches, the conference will explore both advances in FASD research and their relevance to the everyday lives of people with FASD.
By bringing together a diverse program of research presentations, interdisciplinary dialogue, and knowledge exchange, the conference will examine how research can inform practice and policy—and, in turn, how living experience can inform research priorities and shape practice and policy.
Join us in New Mexico as we bring together two longstanding, previously separate conference series: the research conference and the adolescents & adults conference, previously held in Vancouver and Seattle. This reimagined gathering builds on 40 years of research, practice, policy, and living experience to advance knowledge and improve outcomes for people with FASD and their communities.

Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of the conference, participants will be able to:
01
Engage with and discuss emerging FASD research across basic science, prevention, diagnosis, intervention, health, and support across the lifespan. Consider its implications for future research, policy, practice, and care.
02
Explore the connections among research, living experience, and clinical practice and policy. Examine how each can inform research priorities, evidence-based and practice-based approaches, and support for individuals with FASD.
03
Identify emerging issues and opportunities to improve outcomes by challenging current thinking and reducing stigma. Recognize gaps in knowledge, policy, and services that require further attention.
04
Strengthen international and interdisciplinary knowledge exchange and collaboration among clinicians, policymakers, community leaders and advocates, and people with FASD and their families. Translate and mobilize shared knowledge and collaboration into practice to advance research.
For individuals with FASD
Your voices and experience matter.
For 2027*, the conference will focus on FASD across the entire lifespan. We remain committed to centering and amplifying the voices of people with living experience.
Your voices and experience matter. You do not need to be a researcher or professional to be part of FASD 2027. Adolescents and adults with FASD are encouraged to attend, share their perspectives, ask questions, build connections, and help guide researchers and professionals to better understand and focus on what matters in everyday life.
*While there will not be a separate adolescents and adults stream in 2027, we plan to offer dedicated, closed sessions for adults with FASD ages 18+ in alternating years, beginning as early as 2028. These sessions will be developed by FASD United in partnership with people with living experience.
