An Impactful Network: Widening the Circle

An Impactful Network: Widening the Circle

Tuesday, September 19th

This year during National FASD Impact week, we will deepen our sense of connection and community with each other as we consider what it means to be advocates for equity and inclusion on behalf of people with FASD in the broader DEIB (diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging) space. This DEIB session aims to launch meaningful conversations, engagement, and capacity building related to DEIB in our Affiliate Network and the FASD Field at large.

This day will build on knowledge, understandings, and tools that FASD advocates, providers, and researchers have developed over decades, offering an opportunity to engage in multimodal interactive learning and personal sharing as we consider ways to widen our circle and widen our lens to embrace even more expansively our common humanity in its complex diversity. The Affiliate Network’s Diversity & Equity Work Group is designing a day full of activities that offer not only a chance for “connection through reflection,” but also actionable insights and understanding. The day will conclude with an invitation, including some concrete options, for affiliates to become more involved in FASD United’s DEIB work moving forward.

During the DIEB day, the organizing committee hopes to:

  • Deepen our sense of connection and community within the Affiliate Network and beyond
  • Expand our insights into the complexity of DEIB as it relates to our work in the FASD space
  • Enhance our understanding of DEIB as integral to our work and its impact, including how FASD is positioned within the DEIB universe
  • Fortify our commitment to address DEIB as integral to our FASD-related work by providing actionable knowledge and insights.

Since the day will consist of carefully sequenced presentations and numerous small group breakouts, for an optimal experience, your participation in the entire day is strongly encouraged. That being said, we realize scheduling  is not always entirely within your control.  To ensure participants in the DEIB session are able to engage with their full selves, with as little interruption and distraction as possible, people who are not present at the beginning of the session or need to leave the session (apart from emergencies) will be able to join the DEIB session only during scheduled break times: during the mid-morning break, after lunch, or during the mid-afternoon break. It will not be possible to enter the session at any other time.

This event is open to the public with registration.  For more information and to register click here.
