FASD Care Management Plans – The Voice of the lived Experience
(A review of the FASD UK Alliance presentation at the FASD Conference in Salford).
At the recent FASD Conference in Salford: The FASD UK Alliance presentation centred around the Nice (National Institute for Health & Care Excellence) Quality Standard no.5 The Care Management Plan.
In this webinar we will be discussing the biggest frustrations regarding the care management plans, what families want in Care Management Plans, what is needed for a person with FASD, and what “Umbrella care” should look like.
Cindy and her husband have two adopted children, the eldest being a young man with FASD. Although he was adopted at the age of one, she knew nothing of FASD until he was 11 and he later received his diagnosis aged 13. Realising how earlier knowledge of FASD could have helped her family she set up Elucidate Training at the beginning of 2020 to try and help raise awareness of FASD by delivering introductory training sessions. Has since worked to raise FASD awareness with parents, foster carers, social workers, educators, and charity workers. Runs a Stoke and Staffordshire support group for parents and carers of children who have FASD and is a member of the local authority FASD steering committee for those areas. Joined the Greater Manchester FASD Network in 2020 as an active honorary member and became a member of the FASD UK Alliance in 2021.
