Late Breaking Call for Poster & Oral Paper Abstracts

Updated Feb. 6, 2024:

The Call for Abstracts is now closed. All submitters will receive the acceptance/rejection email by Monday, February 12. If you have any questions in the meantime, please contact Jo Votolato, votolato@fasdunited.org.

Deadline Extension: Monday, February 5, 2024 (inclusive)

Are you accepting abstracts for the 2024 conference?

Although the conference has taken a significant pause, we hope to retain intact the ethos of the Vancouver conference (previously hosted by University of British Columbia’s Interprofessional Continuing Education) and make the transition from Vancouver to Seattle as seamless as possible. Due to the truncated planning season, we feel that the only way to execute this conference successfully in such a short period is to build on the program already established that was cancelled last minute, due to the pandemic. Therefore, for 2024, we are accepting abstracts ONLY for poster presentations. However, in the submission process, you will be able to indicate if you would like to present this submission as an 15-minute oral session as a few posters will be highlighted in an oral session format.

Before you submit your abstract, please review the following information as the form may not save once you start the submission process:

What do I need to include in my abstract?

1. Presenter & Author affiliations, including bios.

2. Indicate the primary theme, as well as all other applicable themes, under which your abstract is submitted:

  • Diagnosis/Assessment
  • Clinical
  • Research/Science
  • Practice-based Evidence
  • Criminal/Civil Justice
  • Program/Policy
  • Stigma

3. Provide an abstract of 400 words maximum including (if applicable):

  • Purpose: Present main research questions, hypothesis, reasons for undertaking the investigation
  • Methods: Include descriptions of participants, procedures, instrumentation, data analysis, or the equivalent
  • Results: Results presented in the poster can be preliminary, incomplete (in process of data collection), and can include anticipated or speculated results
  • Implications: Clearly present the “take home messages” from your investigation as it relates to adolescents and adults with FASD (consider the conference objectives)
  • References: Include approximately three-five references on which the current work has been based

4. Provide 2-4 learning objectives. Learning objectives must be specific to what you will present, AND learner-oriented.

5. You must include a paragraph that addresses the following two questions:

  • What do you believe to be the broader relevance to your work in the field and to adolescents and adults with FASD?
  • What questions has your work identified or what else has arisen from your work that research may be able to answer?

How do I submit my abstract?

After preparing the information outlined above, the abstract can be submitted here. Please ensure you have all the information prepared as outlined above before submitting the form to ensure a smooth process.

When is the deadline to submit my abstract?

Before/on Monday, February 5, 2024

Important Notes:

All presenters of accepted abstracts will be offered a reduced registration fee for the main conference. Honoraria, accommodation, travel, and other associated expenses are not covered by the conference. Presenters must be comfortable presenting and answering questions in English. Accepted presenters should presuppose prior knowledge of FASD.

If you have any questions prior to submitting, please contact Jo Votolato, Conference Director, at votolato@fasdunited.org.
