California Families Rejected for State Services Needed for Legal Challenge

California families! If you applied to any regional center in California, were denied eligibility for your loved one with a Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) diagnosis, appealed that decision and lost, please contact Peggy Black at NOFAS Northern California. A children’s legal advocacy agency is interested in challenging the regional centers and the California Department of Developmental Disability Services for failure to provide services for people with FASD.

Contact Peggy Black at (925) 588-9737. Let’s take a stand! It is time for California and the regional centers to recognize FASD and provide needed services.

NOFAS Northern California, a member of the FASD United Affiliate Network, was founded in 2014 by a group of parents determined to find support and services for their children, where none existed. Among the organization’s objective are to make legislative changes, establish diagnostic capacity in Northern California, and address the current difficulty in obtaining developmental disability services in the state.

The California Department of Developmental Disability Services oversees the coordination and delivery of services for Californians with developmental disabilities through a statewide network of 21 community-based, non-profit agencies known as regional centers. Regional centers provide assessments, determine eligibility for services, and offer case management services. Regional centers also develop, purchase, and coordinate the services in each person’s Individual Program Plan.

Contact Peggy Black if you know someone with FASD who was denied services on appeal by the California regional centers.
