FASD United Welcomes Florissa Pediatric Development Center to the Affiliate Network

We are excited to welcome Florissa Pediatric Development Center as the newest member of the FASD United Affiliate Network, a coalition of organizations united to further FASD awareness, provide support, and improve the quality of life for those affected by prenatal alcohol exposure.

Based in Northwest Illinois, Florissa is a pediatric developmental center that is making a major difference in the lives of children and families by fulfilling its mission to “be an accessible system of care that promotes early identification and provides resources and services for children at risk for developmental, medical, emotional, social, and/or behavioral difficulties.”

Florissa has a number of impactful programs, including providing multi-disciplinary diagnostic evaluations, including when prenatal alcohol exposure is involved. Florissa provides “caregiver coaching and educational trainings on FASDs, in addition to individual client services.”

FASD services offered by Florissa include policy advocacy, educational training, family support, diagnostic services, youth counseling, and utilization of the Families Moving Forward intervention program.

Established in 2015, Florissa provides “early intervention for birth to three years, screenings for developmental differences, caregiver consultations, comprehensive evaluations for ages 2-22, group therapies, direct counseling, community trainings, and family events.”

Clinical Psychologist Laura M. Gumbiner, Ph.D. says, “Florissa is so excited to join the Affiliate Network, as collaboration is essential in addressing the complexity of FASD. We’re looking forward to these partnerships strengthening our ability to identify FASD as early as possible and provide more informed, supportive services for the youth we serve. We’re also committed to giving back to the network by sharing our clinical insights, engaging in collaborative learning, and helping move forward innovative approaches that improve outcomes across communities.”
