We are excited to welcome the Center for Humanistic Change, Inc. (CHC) back as a member of the FASD United Affiliate Network, now comprised of 51 organizations united to further FASD awareness, provide support, and improve the quality of life for those affected by prenatal alcohol exposure.
Based in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, The Center for Humanistic Change, Inc. (CHC)’s mission is to “give people, especially youth, the knowledge and tools they need to make better-informed and more positive life choices.” CHC has a number of impactful programs, including drug and alcohol prevention programs, local in-school student mentoring, and facilitates Student Assistance Program (SAP) teams. Serving a variety of communities, including students, parents, teachers, and non-profit professionals, CHC is a leader in addressing alcohol and substance abuse through educational programming.
CHC offers FASD training and advocacy programs, providing an annual FASD virtual presentation open to anyone, with speakers and family testimonials, as well as presentations to community groups. CHC is educating the community about “what causes FASD, how to recognize the signs, how FASD is diagnosed, and connections to resources.”
Lisa S. Wolff, CHC’s Manager of Community Engagement says, “CHC, the premiere drug and alcohol prevention agency in the Lehigh Valley, PA, is excited to join the FASD United Affiliate Network! We look forward to this collaboration that will strengthen our ability to provide the very best FASD awareness and educational programs for professionals and families throughout Lehigh and Northampton Counties.”
The Center for Humanistic Change, Inc. (CHC) brings deep expertise in how to work effectively in educational and school-based settings. This is so important, as many students with FASD are undiagnosed and unsupported in our education system. Expanding school-based supports and developing appropriate accommodations have been shown to lead to substantially improved long-term outcomes, setting children up for success. CHC is a local leader in their community in “bringing together people from all sectors of the Lehigh Valley [Pennsylvania] to collectively address the issues of alcohol and substance abuse.”
CHC provides education on “practical life skills training to build resilience” and connects people to local community resources. CHC’s evidence-based programs are provided to schools, nonprofit organizations, correctional facilities, neighborhoods, and businesses. Through their education initiatives and “train the trainer” approach, CHC is making a difference in the lives of countless families. We are proud to welcome them to the network of FASD United affiliate organizations and look forward to many years of impactful collaboration.
